14th October 2011Weekender Sport puts Perry Street FC player-manager Ian Hilton under the spotlight
Q How long have you been involved in local football? Who have you played for or managed?
A I have played Perry Street League football since I was 14 years old. I’ve played for Perry Street, Chard Town A, Chard Colts, Ilminster and Merriott Rovers. I’ve player-managed Perry Street Reserves and am currently doing the same for the same for teh first team.
Q Name the best three players you’ve played with and why?
A Lee Wilson - An absolute legend. Rob Webb - The strongest player I have ever seen and Jimmer Carmichael is the best goalkeeper I have ever played with.
Q What is the best away ground you ever played on?
A Barrington’s pitch is the best in the league without a doubt, but the best away changing facilities belong to Winsham United.
Q Have any games stuck in your memory?
A Two cup finals against Ilminster Colts, the first a Tommy Tabberer match at Lyme Regis’ Davey Fort in 2007-08 - we won 2-0 - our only clean sheet of the season. The second the following seasonat Combe in the Jack Venn Final. It finished 3-3 AET we won on penalties 4-3. I scored the last pen (It’s still on YouTube - thanks Ben!).
Q How are things progressing at Perry Street FC? what could be improved?
A We just need to improve results on the pitch but otherwise all things off it are great.
Q Name some young players we should look out for in the future?
A We have a lot of young players this season but Kyran Bailey and the other Keiran Bailey both have great abilities. Ryan Mason is a very good young player and (the not-so young) Ben Stevens who is a bit of a veteran now.
Q What are your hopes for the season?
A To keep both teams up in the top two divisions.
