14th October 2011BEAMINSTER LADIES HOCKEY: Perfect start continues
Beaminster 5 Yeovil & Sherborne 3rd 0
FOUR goals in the first 11 minutes sealed the points for Beaminster who could have doubled their score by halftime.
The win maintains their perfect start to the season and keeps them atop of the Channel Division 1 on goal difference from Swanage & Wareham who have also won their first three games.
Beaminster pressurised their opponents from the first whistle and it was no surprise therefore when Danni Donovan gave them the lead on six minutes, scoring from close range following a goalmouth melee.
Two minutes later a superb team move from the back ended with Donovan feeding Izzy Davies who fired high across the keeper into the top corner.
Beaminster, full of confidence, were playing the ball around well, and another slick team move saw Donovan grab her second with ten minutes on the clock.
Almost from the restart Yeovil were in disarray again as Julia May weaved her way along the bye line before finding Davies at the near post who cleverly scored with a reverse stick move.
Under the cosh the visitors staunchly defended but were breached again on 22 minutes when player of the match Donovan claimed her hat trick, firing through a ruck of players.
Davies almost did likewise a minute later but her shot from May’s pass thumped against the post.
The second half was tame by comparison with Beaminster maintaining the ascendancy but lacking that extra bite in the final third, but under no danger themselves the game inevitably drew to its conclusion.
It was good to see Beaminster finally showing some of the qualities they undoubtedly possess that have finally come to the fore.
They showed in their game against Gillingham the previous week that they have the resilience and ability to fight back, but their movement and calling is much better now and their confidence sky high.
Beaminster: Andrews; Spicer, Clarke, S Davies, Craddock, May, White, Donovan, Early I Davies, Crawford, Drewery
