14th October 2011CHARD: In the news on Holyrood Street
Andrew and Gemma Emery are settling in to their new life as business partners, since they took over the Emery Newsagents in Holyrood Street, Chard, after Andrew’s grandfather Maurice Emery retired aged 76.
Although Andrew had worked alongside his grandfather for the past 12 years, since leaving school, he is keen for the public to know that he has inherited the business but not the temperament, as his grandfather was affectionately known as Mr Grumpy.
Gemma is new to the shop but worked on the front desk of an hotel for several years and loves dealing with people face to face. She also loves reading, so enjoys the wide range of magazines they stock.
Together with their Golden Retriever Meg, the couple who are both in their twenties and both from Chard, are extending a warm welcome to customers, old and new.
They are gradually making small changes, expanding, re-organising and updating familiar lines and introducing new ones.
Mr Emery said: “I just really love it here, I have always enjoyed the job and we provide a service, delivering papers; a lot of people don’t realise you can still get papers delivered and apart from One Stop who stick to their locality, we are the only place in Chard that do.
“We want to improve our customers’ satisfaction, by providing a better service, wider range of products and importantly service with a smile.
“We want to get the word around that people can now come into the shop without being scared of the man sat behind the desk!”
