12th October 2011LYME REGIS: Celebrity chef granted permission for restaurant balcony extension
Local Planning Decisions by Francesca Evans
LOCAL celebrity chef Mark Hix has been granted permission to extend the terrace at his Hix Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis.
The currently small timber terrace will be extended around the side of the restaurant in Lister Gardens to provide more space for diners.
The district council also gave permission for a change of use from a shop to shop and cafe at Fish and Two Veg greengrocers, 49 Broad Street, which is a listed building. The council ruled that the shop should not be open before 8am and after 10pm on Mondays to Saturdays and before 11am and after 9pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, and the cafe should not be open before 8am and after 9pm Mondays to Saturdays, and before 11am and after 7pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
• THE district council has also approved the following applications (Lyme Regis Town Council comments are in brackets):

First floor side extension and balcony at 1 Lymbrook Cottages, Jericho (no objection);

• A PLANNING application for a roof extension on a seafront property in Lyme Regis has been refused on the grounds that it would be an “overly dominant and unsympathetic” development, which would “neither preserve nor enhance” and nearby listed buildings.
The application was for a roof extension and alterations, works to the front wall and a new external walkway at Cobb Gate on Marine Parade, a holiday let owned by local resident Cliff Powley.
The application received six letters of objection and one in favour. Speaking at a recent town council Planning and Highways Committee meeting, one concerned resident said the extension would cause the “gradual destruction to the view and character of Lyme’s seafront”.
The town council recommended refusal on the grounds that it would be “detrimental” to neighbouring properties, including listed buildings, by blocking light, and to the surrounding street scene and the application was later refused by the district council.
