12th October 2011LYME REGIS: Golf club captain raises £9,000 for local youth
LYME Regis Golf Club captain, Ray Farrell, presented £9,200 to The Hub at the club’s annual presentation night on Friday.
Mr Farrell selected the youth club as his charity for the year and hosted a number of events to raise funds towards its refurbishment. The cheque was presented to chairman of The Hub’s fundraising group, Councillor Terry O‘Grady, at the function on Friday.
Councillor O’Grady said: “As chairman of The Hub fundraising group it gave me great pleasure to receive a cheque for £9,200 from captain Ray Farrell. I would like to thank Ray for his hard work and dedication to this charity, and also thank his wife Patsy and his family for all their help and support.
“I would also like to thank Steve Philips, Dave Astill and all at Lyme Regis Golf Club. And also a big thank you to all the sponsors and people who donated prizes for the events.”
• THE Hub youth club in Lyme Regis is calling for more support in a bid to win £6,000 from NatWest CommunityForce.
The Hub is up against 47 other projects in West Dorset, and the top three with the most votes will win £6,000, which the youth club would spend on disabled toilets.
However, supporter Ayvin Rogers has reported that support for this funding has not been as great as that in previous campaigns for The Hub. He said in 15 hours, 8,913 votes were made for The Hub to win £60,000 Lottery funding, but only 80 have voted online for the NatWest Community Force money since late September.
Mr Rogers said that this “doesn’t reflect The Hub’s support” and believed the problem may be down to the difficulty of voting online, as many people has complained it was “frustrating”.
Votes can be made online at but Mr Rogers has urged supported to vote via the free phone line if they are unable to vote online for find it too difficult.
To vote for The Hub by phone, call 0800 2100 246 or for hearing/speech impairments phone Minicom 0800 0155 545 and when asked voter for Project 5813 Lyme Regis Development Trust. Lines are open until Monday, October 24th.
Mr Rogers added: “Please don’t be casual and rely on others. Your effort could make the difference between £6,000 or not. I know there are loads of suppoters but frustrated with their site. Just phone them for free.”
He also urged supporters to spread the word via social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
