BEAMINSTER: Town council clarifies position on traveller sites

FOLLOWING recent reports on plans to legalise traveller sites in Beaminster, the town council have come forward to clarify their position.

Despite Town Councillors Janet Page and Philip Elliot voicing their support for the proposals, in the View from Beaminster lead article “legalised traveller sites get councillors’ backing”, the town council as a public body have not discussed the proposals.

Beaminster Town Clerk Christine Bright said: “I would like to clarify that individual councillors may or may not be supporting the proposal in a private capacity, however the council as a corporate body has not yet discussed this issue.”

The finalised proposals will be published, and made open for public consultation, in November 2011, at that time they will be discussed by the Beaminster Town Council.
