BROADWINDSOR: Honoured for making a difference in society

by Tom Glover

A BROADWINDSOR woman who founded the Hysterectomy Association has been invited to attend the annual Women of the Year lunch in London this month.

The exclusive lunch is an invitation only event with guests hand-picked in recognition of their personal contribution to society.

The lunch celebrates inspirational women from all walks of life and Broadwindsor’s Linda Parkinson-Hardman has been chosen to attend this year in recognition of her work with the Hysterectomy Association, which she founded in December 1997.

Linda has continued to provide advice to women facing a hysterectomy, ensuring they are making the most informed decisions based on their needs, since the association was formed. The association itself remains unique due to the fact it is completely self-supporting, receiving no funding or grants.

In previous years the Women of the Year lunch has seen awards presented to the likes of Annie Lennox, Tina Turner and Margaret Thatcher.

Linda said she was looking forward to the event but said it was down to the support of her members.

“I can’t tell you how great it feels to have made such a difference in these women’s lives,” she said.

“Invitations to this lunch are like gold-dust and I am so excited to be attending. Without my members, I wouldn’t have been able to set up the support network that exists today.”

In addition to her work for the association, Linda has also written a range of Hysterectomy books; The Pocket Guide to Hysterectomy, Losing the Woman Within, and 101 Handy Hints for a Happy Hysterectomy which is an Amazon best seller in the UK and the US.

Member of The Hysterectomy Association website Tessa Gray said “If it wasn’t for this website, I would never have gotten through my hysterectomy. I met some wonderful ladies through the forum who have helped me a great deal, calmed my nerves and answered all my questions. Linda has truly created a great place for women pre/post hysterectomy to be.”

Finding Linda's site has been a savour to me. I was told a need a hysterectomy and given no information at all, no advice from my consultant, I went home terrified. I found this site and the members and Linda have put my mind at rest, I'm waiting for my op but am no longer frightened. She truly deserves to be recongnised for all her hard work.
