Body found at foot of Portland cliffs

INVESTIGATIONS are under way to determine how and why a man’s body ended up at the bottom of a 130 feet cliff on Portland.

A post mortem was due to be held yesterday (July 13th), at Dorset County Hospital to establish a formal identification of the young man who is believed to have lived in the area.

Police, ambulance and a coastguard rescue team were called to the dead man at Hallelujah Bay on the west side of Portland on Friday, July10th.
The body was recovered by coastguard helicopter and transported to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester by ambulance.

The Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team and Wyke Rescue Team attended along with officers from the Dorset Police Marine Section.

It is still not known at the time of going to press how the man’s body came to be at the foot of the cliff, but police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
