30th September 2011PLYMOUTH: Three Phantoms
Starring current Phantom of the Opera star John Owen-Jones
Plymouth Pavilions is set to be haunted by not just one phantom but three on Saturday, November 19 2011 as the Arena plays host to three of the biggest names from London’s West End.
‘Three Phantoms’ has become a new theatrical phenomenon, surprising not only its producers but also critics alike. It performed to over 5000 people earlier this year and features two former and the current Phantom who between them have clocked up over 4,000 performances playing the title role in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s eponymous musical in what has been described as one of the best evening of entertainment seen in a long time.
The current Phantom John Owen-Jones is joined by other West End stars Earl Carpenter, last seen in Plymouth as Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard and last together playing the roles of Valjean and Javert respectively in the sell-out 25th Anniversary tour of ‘Les Misérables’, are joined by Matthew Cammelle from the recent International touring production of ‘Mamma Mia’. Together they will perform and host an evening celebrating what has become the world’s most successful entertainment phenomenon, ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’, as well as performing numbers from other hit musicals that have put them at the top of their profession. Martin Guerre, Secret Garden, Pacific Overtures, Sunset Boulevard, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and of course Les Miserables to name but a few.
Musical theatre fans and especially Phantom ‘Phans’- are in for a real treat as they can expect some unique backstage insights and anecdotes from John, Earl and Matthew’s time as the Phantom. The trio will also be singing songs from various other adaptations of the story that inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to write his incredibly evocative score.
Of course, no Phantom would be complete without his Christine and ‘Three Phantoms’ is no exception as they will be joined by international musical and opera star Rebecca Caine. Amongst her many accolades she originated the role of Cosette in the Cameron Mackintosh and RSC production of ‘Les Misérables’ and then joined the original cast of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ to play Christine opposite Michael Crawford. She then went on to play this role in the Canadian premiere of Phantom of the Opera alongside Colm Wilkinson.
What underlies ‘Three Phantoms’ is a commitment to an evening of West End standard, quality entertainment- which is why in addition to top West End talent, the performers will be accompanied by the Concert Philharmonic Orchestra comprising of twenty-one top West End musicians, our Three Phantoms’ dancers and all conducted by Anthony Gabriele, former Musical Director of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Earl Carpenter, one of the Phantoms and producer of ‘Three Phantoms’, commented: “This concert has become a bit of an over night success for us. There are many great ‘songs from the shows’ concerts that tour the UK with a keyboard or small band, but we knew that Phantoms needed more than that, and we are delighted to have a twenty-one strong orchestra with us on this tour – and great to return to Plymouth with an event that has received great critical acclaim and public interest!!”
