LYME REGIS FOOTBALL: Proud Peacock breaks record!

LYME Regis’ superb start to the new season continued on Saturday with big wins for both the first team and the Bantams.

Joe Bond, restored to the central striking role which brought him 21 goals two seasons ago, scored twice as did Steve Batey as the Seasiders took apart Harvey Jennings’ new-look Merriott Rovers to the tune of 6-0.

But the star of the day was undoubtedly striker Pete Peacock who became the first Lyme Bantam to score five goals in a game the team demolished Crewkerne Rangers Reserves 9-1. Peacock eclipsed the previous record of four jointly held by Adam Caddy, Lance Turner and James Maidment.

Chris Simpson and his side welcome Chard United Reserves at the weekend whilst the first team travel to struggling Perry Street.

After a week off the Reserves return to action with a Dorset Junior Cup tie against Normalair RSL Reserves at the Davey Fort (3pm ko).

The Ressies last won the trophy back in 1999-00 when Trevor Finnigan netted an injury-time winner to defeat Crossways in the Final at Bridport.

It was a mixed weekend for the Uplyme camp. The first team hammered Hinton 9-1 with Gavin Fowler edging closer to the 400-PSL goal mark with a hat-trick.

At the same time the Reserves were annihilated 12-1 at Ilminster A and have now shipped 23 goals in a week. The team head west to take on Farway United Reserves on Saturday.

Charmouth are the visitors to Venlake on Saturday for a Division Two derby game with the Uplyme first XI. The Robins were beaten 6-2 at Pymore last weekend meaning the region’s football fans witnessed 40 goals in just five games - now that’s entertainment!

Lyme Regis under 14s team manager Mark Bailey is on the look-out for new players - anybody interested should call 07881 628205.
