14th September 2011LYME REGIS: Shed Photography venture will promote local artistic talent
A NEW art venture called The Shed Photography will launch during Lyme Regis ArtsFest with an exhibition in the newly refurbished Marine Parade shelters.
The Shed Photography is the realisation of a long-time dream of local artist, Chelsea Davine, who wanted to create a platform for artists and photographers to come together and offer their work to a larger, international audience.
Ms Davine said: “Artists often work in a solitary environment and are very much on their own when it comes to putting their work out into the world. It can be very discouraging and many artists remain disconnected from supportive environments. The idea of the Shed is not just a place for artists to sell their work, but to be nurtured and to be part of a community. In conjunction with the website, the Shed members will hold group shows and participate in various art events as a “family of artists”. It’s an amazing community concept and there is really nothing quite like it.”
For an annual fee of £60 artists and photographers can feature up to 12 pieces of work to be sold on the website and be included in group shows and events, and feature on a blog and monthly newsletter.
Following the ArtsFest exhibition, which will be held in the shelters between Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 25th, the next group event will be a show on October 6th at the Milk Gallery in Barcelona.
