23rd June 2011DORCHESTER: Author's book signing
Author David H.J. Smith was in Wellworths, Dorchester, on Carnival Day to promote the publication of his first book, The Titanic’s Mummy.
David studied history at postgraduate level at Westminster University. Although working in various jobs such as immigration officer, retail manager, facilities officer, and in IT, his overriding passion has always been for writing, and the publication of this book realises a lifelong dream.
The Titanic’s Mummy is a supernatural adventure which mixes urban legend with lesser known historical facts, as well as covering aspects of the fateful voyage. And it has been written to tie in with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in 2012.
Failing to publish his novel through the usual channels David set up his own firm, Page Croft Publishing, to manage the project himself. This included printed paperbacks, e-books, and selling through websites, Titanic exhibitions, sci-fi fairs and conventions, and independent shops.
The result has been promising, with nearly 100 books sold before the official release date and praise from many quarters including the World of Horror Website.
The Titanic’s Mummy supports the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. And David is already working on a novella called The Titanic’s Vampire, which ties in directly with his first book. He hopes it will be ready for release on download for Christmas of this year. More information about the debut novel can be found on the website www.thetitanicsmummy.com or by emailing [email protected]
