9th June 2011WEYMOUTH: Pupil writes his own high school musical
TEENAGE music genius Jordan Clarke has written an entire musical for his school.
The 15-year-old, who is a pupil at All Saints School, Weymouth, hopes to become a film score composer or work for the BBC.
His classmates are well used to performing in an annual musical production for the school such as Calamity Jane or Grease but, when Jordan asked them to sing a couple of songs he had written, they got an early taste of the musical that he was composing.
Jordan said: “We were doing Calamity Jane in 2010, I was musical director and, as an aside, I took along two songs I had written for a musical I was composing called “Andrew”.
“Everyone seemed quite impressed, so I began to tailor the musical for the voices I knew at All Saints.
“I finished the songs in April and the music in May, so we are all working together now for the production of Andrew at All Saints which will be staged on July 6th-7th from 7pm each night.”
Andrew will have more than 30 performers in the cast and Jordan will be keeping an eye on his creation because he will again be musical director.
The modest young man has such a talent that he started his Music A Level two years early and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his heroes John Williams, who wrote the spine-tingling scores for Jaws and Star Wars, and Howard Shore who wrote the music for Lord of the Rings.
Jordan said: “It is likely that I will try to take a degree in musical composition to further my hopes for a career in film music.”
All that is in the future and Jordan’s attention is focused on the more immediate demands of staging Andrew.
He said: “I am now a bit nervous. I know what the competition is like for musicals and Andrew Lloyd Webber is obviously a goal, but getting Andrew out to a wider audience is my goal at the moment, that and doing well in my GCSE exams.
“Everything is a bit of a blur, but I would particularly like to thank everyone at All Saints for being supportive.”
