26th May 2011WEYMOUTH: A view from the top of scouting
A BIRD’S eye view of New Bond Street was on offer when Weymouth and Portland District Scouts held an adult volunteer recruiting drive.
People could scale a climbing tower outside Debenhams to get a taste of some of the opportunities offered by scouting.
Chairman Peter Rendall said: “We hope the day found us several new adult volunteers.
“We have a waiting list of nearly 70 young people who are old enough to join the scouts but who can’t because a lack of adult volunteers means we don’t have the spaces available.
“The infrastructure is all in place. We have the buildings and equipment, but not the adults to make full use of them.
“Just a few extra volunteers would make a huge difference because with their help we could offer up to 100 scout and beaver places, perhaps more.”
Anyone who would like more information about becoming an adult scouting volunteer should contact Debbie Shaw on 01305-783282 or email her at [email protected].
