19th May 2011WEYMOUTH: Food support for women's refuge
CURVES Ladies Fitness has helped Weymouth Women’s Refuge by donating a quantity of non-perishable food.
The food was provided by new Curves members instead of paying a service fee while more food was donated by Asda, Weymouth.
Barbara Hart, who owns Curves on the Granby Industrial Estate, said:
“The food weighed more than 300lbs and we feel it has gone to a fantastic cause.
“These people have enough problems without having to think about going food shopping and these food donations will help ensure the refuge’s cupboards are full.
“Some families arrive at the refuge in the middle of the night, so food needs to be there waiting for them.
“Food is costly for the refuge so this will also help them with their expenses.
“Curves would also like to thank Asda for their support because they donated a lot of food to our appeal as part of their community work.”
Refuge spokesman Gill Taylor said: “This food will be extremely useful for the refuge.
“It is a fantastic idea because it doesn’t just help women in the refuge but women at Curves as well. It is great to know that organisations in the community are supporting us.”
