Stroll down Dorchester’s high street and history leaps out at you from a multitude of places.
On the evening of Saturday, May 14th visitors can make the most of this heritage as Dorset’s county town celebrates “Museums at Night”.
All six of the town’s museums plus the Roman Town House are specially open from 5pm to 9pm, and what’s more a family can gain entrance to all of them for just £6.
The seven iconic heritage venues include the Keep Military Museum, one of the top ten highly rated military museums in the country; the internationally renowned Tutankhamun Exhibition, unique in this country; Britain’s original Dinosaur Museum, acclaimed as one of the ten best child friendly museums nationally; the award winning Dorset County Museum with its fantastic collections on everything Dorset; The Teddy Bear Museum; the Terracotta Warriors Museum and the Roman Town House which is the best preserved example of its type in the UK open to the public - the doors will be open so you can get up close to the mosaics.
All the museums are visitor friendly and are housed in historic buildings.
You can even visit the Keep Military Museum’s floodlit roof for fabulous views over Dorchester on a clear evening.
Museums at Night is on the evening of Saturday, May 14th when the museums will be open after hours from 5pm to 9pm.
There is a special Museums at Night advance ticket of just £6 for up to a family of 2 adults and 4 children to visit all these historical attractions, which is only valid between these times.
Advance tickets can be purchased from the Dorchester Tourist Information Centre or any of the participating museums.
Tickets purchased on the night cost £10.
