LYME REGIS: Lots to do at the museum this May

LYME Regis Museum will host a range of talks and activities during May, including its first stargazing party.

The family-friendly party, called “The Sky at Night”, is being held as part of Museums at Night weekend with experts from the Norman Lockyer Observatory.

A talk will be held at 8pm on Saturday, May 14th, followed by refreshments and an outdoor telescope session, where those taking part will be able to view the stars, planets and an almost full moon.

The museum will also host a book launch on Friday, May 20th, as part of Martime Lyme year. Local author Peter Lacey will launch “Ebb and Flow - a Martime History of Lyme Regis” at a party from 6pm - everyone is welcome.

On Sunday, May 22nd, the museum will celebrate Dorset’s historic fishing vessel, the Lerret. The newly built Lerret “Littlesea” and its 1923 motherboat “Vera” will be launched from the Cobb Gate for a ceremonial row to the Cobb at 11am, where the museum will be hosting an exhibition of memories from Lerret fishing folk. The museum will also be open for free all day in celebration.

Other events during May will include:

A talk on “Thomas Corum and the Foundling Hospital” by Anne Sankey, Thursday 5th, 2.30pm;
