27th April 2011LYME REGIS: Beautiful bonnets on a glorious day
By Francesca Evans
THE annual Easter Bonnet Parade in Lyme Regis celebrated the royal wedding with a new trophy for those dressed for the special occasion.
The Royal Wedding Trophy was presented to Isabella Dean for her Union Jack dress and Prince William and Kate-themed bonnet. Phoebe Holmes-Simeon, dressed as a princess bride-to-be, and Eileen Dean, were also given prizes for their efforts.
The parade was held on Easter Sunday in front of a huge crowd. The procession was led through Broad Street by the Junior Band and followed by Lyme Regis Majorettes.
The Mayor, Councillor Michaela Ellis, took part with her daughter Kelsey, deputy mayoress Christine Lovell and town crier Phil Street.
Prizes were presented by the mayor at Theatre Square after the procession. The Tree Tops Cup for best overall entry, donated by sponsors Tree Tops Nursing Home, was given to Robyn Coyle for her original Fabergé egg-style bonnet.
Other sponsors included Judith and Colin Pothecary, the Rock Point Inn, Lyme Regis Town Council, Staples Stores and Chicks Computers of Combpyne.
The event was organised by Councillor Barbara Austin MBE, who unfortunately was not well enough to attend the procession.
