21st April 2011WEYMOUTH: There's been a murder at Nother Fort!
VOLUNTEERS at Weymouth’s Nothe Fort are turning the clock back to 1963 and the days of the Cold War for their very first murder mystery dinner.
I Spy Murder was specially written by local author and storyteller Alex Woodward and combined factual information from the period with a devious and imaginative plot to produce an evening of intrigue and authentic atmosphere.
The event was a sell-out with some would-be sleuths travelling from as far afield as Wales and Gloucester to help discover whodunit.
A further evening is now being planned after receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, so budding detectives have another chance to uncover the villain on Saturday, May 7th from 7pm.
The scenario is set in 1963 when the Cold war is raging and visitors are invited to join a select gathering of local dignitaries and officials at a dinner hosted by Major Comfrey to celebrate the completion of Weymouth’s Civil Defence Facility at The Nothe Fort.
Despite it being a mere two years since Dorset was shaken by the discovery of a Soviet spy ring operating from Portland, permission has been granted for all those attending to be taken on a guided tour of the bunker hidden deep within the Fort’s tunnels.
However, there are rumours that one of the infamous spy ring escaped detection — until now — and the net is closing in, but this mole will stop at nothing to keep his, or her, identity a deadly secret.
Murder mystery tickets cost £15 including dinner, a full bar is available and 1960s-style costume is optional. Parking inside the Fort is free.
