22nd June 2011WEST BAY: West Bay car boot sales raise £16k for local groups
GRANTS totalling £16,000 will be handed out to groups and organisation from the Bridport area this Friday.
Representatives from 20 successful community groups who applied for the grants from the West Dorset District Council’s Bridport Community Fund will collect the cheques.
The money is raised from the entrance fees of those selling at the West Bay Road car boot every Sunday throughout the summer months
The groups who will receive their grants during the presentation at The Salthouse in West Bay included: Bridport Child Contact Centre, ReThink Bridport, HomeStart West Dorset, West Bay WI and The Bopper Bus Organisation.
At the presentation, each group and organisation will be invited to talk about their projects and how the grants have helped them.
WDDC Chairman Gillian Summers said: “I fully encourage all local groups and charities to fill in an application form and take advantage of this opportunity. Who knows how much you could benefit your community.”
Groups and organisations are now invited to apply for next year’s grant from December 1st 2011 to February 29th 2012.
After the application deadline has closed, a panel of councillors will decide who receives funding and then the applicants will be notified.

Applications will be open from December 1st and forms will be available at www.dorset foryou.com/bridport fund and from Bridport Tourist Information in South Street, Bridport Town Council and Bridport Leisure Centre.
