FOOTBALL: Hutch disappointed

By Stuart Broom

BRIDPORT player manager Ian Hutchinson was bitterly disappointed with Saturday’s 1-0 reverse at home to Cadbury Heath and admitted his side didn’t deserve to win.

“We were very poor and didn’t deserve to win. After the elation of last week’s win against Longwell Green where we set the standard, the boys were quite deflated not to have put in a better performance.

"Two months ago they would have probably not been too displeased with that display against the side second in the league, but the higher you aim the higher your expectations.

"Unfortunately we had no firepower. We had one shot on goal from Ashley Clarke in all the game. Our lack of goals is a problem, and something we need to improve.

"The boys up front worked their socks off without getting the luck, so I might need to mix it up a bit and see if we can change it.

"As promised we have given them every opportunity to show us what they can do. However we are looking to strengthen the side for next year and so it’s now up to the lads now to prove what they can do between now and the end of the season.”
On the plus side Hutchinson was pleased with the form of keeper Lee Cuff.

“Once again he played very well. He was confident, and came for crosses and claimed some which he had no right to get. His shot stopping was once again first class and he came to our rescue a couple of times towards the end when we were chasing an equaliser, when he stood up and was counted.”

Hutch was critical of the defending that led to the goal. “We didn’t defend well from the throw -in and the thrower was able to whip in the cross from which they scored.

"We lacked that all round quality and now need to get back on track against  Minehead on Saturday.”
