24th March 2009FOOTBALL: Bees lose again to Hamworthy
By Tom Glover
Dorset Premier League Division One
After a strong start against high flyers Hamworthy Rec, Bridport fell apart to succumb to their third defeat against the side since the New Year.
With the third team needing a full squad for their top of the table clash and injuries to Paul Fellows and Dan Jones, the reserve side were forced to travel with a bare 11 players and manager Mike Savage making up the numbers on the bench.
The reserves almost held out until half time with Steve Churchill and Will Boyer playing well at the back and Ben Ward and Harry Fleet running things in midfield. The home side scored on the stroke of half time though to send the reserves into the dressing room deflated.
Manager Savage tried to pick his team up for the second half but they were slow to start and conceded a second just a couple of minute in.
As the reserves pushed hard to try and get back into the fixture they began to look tired and the home side took their chances to eventually claim a comfortable victory.
Manager Savage is now looking to build for next season and has managed to recruit three players from White Horse. Tom Franklin, Richard Maurditt and Richard Pincombe will be giving a chance in the coming weeks and if successful will be added to the squad for next season.
Manager Savage said: "We have got a busy March with four midweek games to come so I have got in the extra players to help boost the squad.
"I have been after them for a long time so its great to have them come and play for us and with our second leg fixture against Wincanton coming up it will be a great opportunity to test them out.
"We have got Portland United on Tuesday who are another strong side but we will have Gary Bulman and Lee Cuff from the first team and Fellows and Jones should both be back so there is every chance we might get something out of it.
"We have had some difficult fixtures recently but its important we keep up morale and I will be looking for a win when we face Hamworthy United on Saturday."
The Reserves also played on Tuesday of last week and lost 5-1 at home to Swanage Town. Gary Bulman picked up the reserves only goal on the night.
Bridport will face league strugglers Hamworthy United this Saturday, February 28th.
