23rd July 2009Great granny will skydive for charity
A KIND hearted great-grandmother from Weymouth is preparing herself for an experience of a lifetime in a bid to raise money for Julia’s House.
President of the Portland Rotary Club, Julia Lunn, 72, is getting ready to complete a tandem skydive at Dunkerswell Airfield on August 15th to raise money for the hospice.
Mrs Lunn, who was given a MBE during her 30 year career in the police which saw her rise to the rank of Superintendent, said she chose to sky-dive: “Because it’s something different”.
“I just thought I’d like to do something I’ve never done before and this seemed perfect because it’s something different. At 72 years-old and a great grandmother I though I was in a good position to get people behind me,” she said.
“I chose Julia’s House because it is the only children’s hospice in Dorset.
All children matter to me, and children at the hospice will be lucky to see adulthood and there’s a lot of work goes on there.”
As Rotary President, Mrs Lunn said that as her name is also Julia she felt that she would never have a better chance to raise the profile of the hospice in such a daring way.
She said: “I have the full backing of the club members and I am hoping some of them will be with me at the jump, it should be quite exciting.”
To sponsor Mrs Dunn send a cheque made payable to Julia’s House, 56 Williams Avenue, Wyke Regis. DT4 9BP.
