24th June 2009THEATRE: Rehearsals going well for Axminster Drama Club
Axminster Drama Club’s production of Oliver is only a few weeks away, and rehearsals, which are now taking place in the Guildhall itself, are going well, according to director Caroline Markham:
“We had our first rehearsal in the Guildhall and I have to say it went reasonably well, notwithstanding the obligatory disorientation that always happens when you move from one rehearsal venue, to another. The children were in high spirits and excited about being on the stage .
The new stage hall floor looks lovely, if a little slippery at present, and the set is coming together. I am excited by the progress Tony (lighting guy, set designer, chairman), has made in bringing my vision together – not an easy thing to do, as he will no doubt testify – Fagin’s den is particularly challenging but will look fantastic when completed and he always seems to add that certain something that neither I or anyone else has thought of but will ultimately enhance and complete the overall picture!
I am pleased to report that there were no scripts on stage and everyone did really well – thank goodness, as the luxury of having a prompt on the night, is not an option.
We also did the magic line last night ‘please sir, I want some more’ and when Bumble replied with ‘MORE ?’ everyone jumped a foot in the air from the sheer volume that word was delivered with – now that’s what I call voice projection!”
Oliver! is due to be staged in the Axminster Guildhall in on Thursday, July 9th and Friday, July 10th at 7.30pm and Saturday, July 11th at 2.30am and 7.30pm.
