FOOTBALL: Grant aid for Millwey Rise Football Club

MILLWEY Rise Football Club are to receive a windfall from the Football Foundation.

The Club’s Youth Development Officer Nick Tregale told The Weekender: “It’s great news, we’re going to receive a grant of £5000. 

“The money is to be put towards  youth related requirements such as coaching coarses, referee expenses and first aid kit.”

Meanwhile Millwey are staging the third of their youth taster sessions tomorrow when boys and girls aged 13 and under are invited down to the club’s new ground at Cloakham Lawns where a training session will take place between 9.30am and 11.30am.

There is a session for children aged between 14 and 16 scheduled for Saturday, June 25th.

On the coaching front Tregale also confirmed that Brad-Lee Miller, Nathan Wormesley and Jason Farrant are in the process of obtaining their level 1 coaching badges.

Other football news...

FARWAY United were officially the best behaved team in the Perry Street League last season. 

Farway manager Andy Baily received the Bob Hall Fair Play Trophy at league’s annual meeting held at Perry Street Club last week.

There will be two new teams in the league when the season kicks-off in September. Reserve teams from Crewkerne Rangers and Uplyme were voted into the league line-up whilst Hinton Reserves have disbanded.

THE hunt continues for the next manager of South-West Peninsula league Division One outfit Axminster Town.

Present joint-imcumbants Kevin Turner and Nick Ogden have both applied for the post as have, it is rumoured, Chard Town coach Ian Burns, Tipton St John’s former Exeter City legend Steve Flack and Josh Stunnel who so nearly led Seaton Town to back-to-back Devon & League titles and a place in the South Peninsula League.

AFTER an excellent season there was much to celebrate at Seaton Town’s annual presentation night last Saturday. The following received awards; 

1st team: Manager’s Player - Dan Stapleton, Players Player - Jacob Hayes, Supporters Player - Ben Ede, Top scorer - Dan Norman and Ben Ede.

Reserves: Manager’s Player - Jamie McCabbe, Player Player - Iain Rylance, Top scorer - David Clarke.

Ladies: Manager’s Player - Caroline Ziemann, Player Player -Cheryl Robson, Most Improved and Club Lady - Jess.

Club awards: Clubperson - Caroline Ziemann, Vice-clubman of the Year - Maxy French, Young Player - Will Mowbray and Ritchie Durrant, Club top scorer - Dan Norman, Most Improved player - Steve Hardie.
