26th May 2011DORCHESTER:iPlay, you play, we all play together
By Anita Harries
The new owners of the former Kidz Corner, Amanda Farran and Debbie Care, are really setting their mark on this children’s play area.
Now under the catchy name iPlay, improvements are well under way with many more in the pipeline.
Integrity Martial Arts already hold classes there on Wednesday mornings, with the under sixes catered for from 10am to 10.30am and mums from 10.45am to 11.45am.
Food is available all day, with fresh fruit, sandwiches, homemade cakes, and biscuits as well as tea, coffee and soft drinks all there to help keep body and soul together and the little ones topped up with plenty of energy.
A recent fundraiser, held in conjunction with Wessex FM, saw everyone’s favourite breakfast presenter Dave Perry in attendance, with free bacon baps given away to the first 25 visitors by Andrew James Catering.
Children’s entertainer Krazy Kev was there to perform some very nifty balloon modelling, and the local police popped in to say hi and ensure there was no speeding or unruly behaviour amongst the young drivers and their pedal cars.
It was wonderful to see the whole room packed with young children having fun and parents sat around enjoying the break.
Many had turned up in fancy dress, balloons were waved, bounced, bopped and popped, and free goodie bags were given to one and all.
Families ate together, played together and relaxed together knowing that the children were playing in a safe and secure environment.
This was pure magical mayhem. Every inch of the soft play area was taken up with children having fun.
There were books for the children to read, along with newspapers and magazines for the slightly more mature “kids” who took advantage of a few minutes of mum and dad time to chill out with a coffee.
Phoenix Cards had set out a lovely display, and WOW Canvas went along with a superb selection of the photographic products they now offer.
Sing, Sign and Play are also regular visitors to iPlay, and they were on hand to demonstrate how baby signing can be learnt through the concept of music and play.
All proceeds from this day of fundraising fun will go to the Dorset County Hospital Scanner Appeal.
