19th May 2011LYME REGIS: New website for The Hub
“EXCITING” work continues behind the scenes at the new Hub youth club in Lyme Regis involving young people and partners in the project.
Ed Low, an art student at the Wodroffe school, has been working on The Hub’s new website which is being launched tomorrow (Thursday).
The website will display the top five logos selected by The Hub’s youth consultation group and these will be on line until May 31st for the public to vote on and choose their favourite. The winning entry will be displayed on site on June 1st.
Ed will continue maintaining the site along with Woodroffe media students and the tec department. The site will provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills.
The new site will keep the public informed with progress reports on The Hub’s building programme, fundraising and any activities and opportunities that might be of interest to young people.
All of the logos that were submitted - about 150 in all, designed by hand or digitally - will go on display at The Hub later in the year where it is planned to make a complete art work on one of the big walls.
Organiser Fran Williams said: “There was such a fantastic response to this competition, with hundreds of entries from individuals, groups of children, schools and youth groups. We had some fabulous designs as well as some entertaining ones.”
Any young people who would like to be involved in The Hub should contact [email protected]. Dot Wood, Head of Art Department at the Woodroffe, said: “As leader of the creative media course we have been delighted to offer the students the ability to work on ‘real’ projects. Giving them the opportunity to liaise with adults in the community has given them an insight into the world of work and how important it is to communicate and work to a specific brief for an outside agency. The Hub project has been inspiring.”
Ed Low said: ““This course has allowed me to develop my skills in my chosen area of graphic design as well as learning skills such as web design. Thanks to Fran Williams’ enthusiasm to get young people involved in the launch of The Hub. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to design and produce the website.”
