13th April 2011LYME REGIS: New town map a 'labour of love' for artist
TOP illustrator and animator Keith Robinson says the creation of the colourful new Lyme Regis historical town map has been a rewarding challenge.
Keith, who lives with his wife on the Devon and Dorset border at Harcombe, began his commission for the town council last August, and the finished article, to be erected on a site at the eastern end of the Marine Parade, will be unveiled by the Mayor, Councillor Michaela Ellis, this Saturday, April 16th at 10.30am.
“The project enabled me to really explore the beautiful town of Lyme Regis,” said Keith, who has lived at Harcombe for less than a year having previously operated from Brighton.
“I spent many weeks researching the project, sketching the resort, which I found fascinating. I soon realised the great potential and opportunity to create something special.
“It became more than just a commission for me and turned into a labour of love. I hope the town will be pleased.”
Keith, 42, is an acclaimed commercial artist, having illustrated books and produced motion graphics for television programmes. He is currently working on a BBC series for comedian, writer and actor Griff Rhys Jones.
Chairman of the Tourism and Advertising Sub-Committee, Councillor David Cozens MBE, said: “My committee has been both excited and impressed with Keith’s work. To say he has gone the extra miles for us is a gross understatement.
“We are confident that the town will be impressed. Keith will be incorporating the map in other publicity related material, and this has to be good for Lyme Regis.”
