WEYMOUTH: Festival offers opportunity to market products to visitors

FIRMS and businesses are being offered an opportunity to put their products in front of 50,000 people at Weymouth and Portland’s 2011 Spirit of the Sea maritime festival.

The annual nine day event from July 2nd-10th, began in 2008 as an Olympic legacy event, celebrates the area’s rich maritime heritage.

It comprises a number of individual activities including the Dorset Seafood Festival, the Dorset Leisure and Watersports Show, the Henri Lloyd Weymouth Regatta, an International Maritime Modelling Festival and Beach Live.

Spirit of the Sea’s organisers want to hear from organisations seeking to market products to the general public.

They’ll be offered a chance to occupy high-profile positions at a host of popular events which run during the festival.

Around 50,000 people visited Spirit of the Sea events in 2010 and it is hoped that numbers will be even higher this year.

Spirit chairman Jeremy Pope said Weymouth and Portland’s profile had been raised by its role as the sailing venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and a new access road had been opened into the town making it much more attractive to visitors.

He added: “The festival represents an ideal opportunity for firms to launch new products or promote established brands.

“We’re optimistic that better roads and a desire for an inexpensive day out will draw more people than ever to the huge range of activities we’ve got planned for Spirit 2011.”

More information about Spirit marketing opportunities is available from event manager Roy Griffiths on 01305-832512, 07976-425719 or by emailing [email protected].
