9th March 2012AXE CLIFF & HONITON GOLF: Dimonds drive hits the spot
HONITON with Andy Wagner
WE were to play a charitable 4BBB game for the new captain’s Drive-in on Sunday morning with two scores to count and then all repair to the 18th fairway to watch new Club Captain, Paul Dimond, officially start his year with the ceremonial drive.
Paul only needed one drive to find the fairway, another break with tradition.
And so inside for the speeches and for Paul, helped by his new Vice-Captain Dave Morgan, to hand out the prizes. The winners, by a country mile, amassed 84pts so the congratulations and handshakes went to . . . the Captain himself backed by his Vice-Captain Dave alongside Ron Graham and Dave Lavender.
The bottle of whisky for guessing where Paul's drive would come to rest went to Dave Lavender! Let's hope that Paul's charity, the Mardon Trust fund, a Neurology Rehabilitation Centre in Exeter, has a successful year.
Tuesday Mixed
TWENTY TWO Members enjoyed the good weather playing for the Chivers Goblets which is the monthly drawn for playing partners Greensome Stableford.

With Spring finally showing its head, 43 ladies played a yellow ball competition over 14 holes with a shot-gun start.

Senior Section
The Seniors did not have a prize competition this week, but instead played in four-ball better-ball format.
John Discombe, the Captain, thought it would be good practice for the upcoming inter-club match season.
The results were mixed, but all were blessed with sunshine and a fairly dry course.
AXE CLIFF with Janet Dack
The Winter League for the Seniors is reaching its conclusion with one more round due to take place today (March 9th).
Many teams played their eighth and final rounds last Friday and with the best six to count it promises to be an exciting finish.
The holders - Rob Grove and Bryan Dale - completed their allocation on Friday and have set a promising target of 219.
They could be overtaken if Tony Strong and Bob Flay, who have one round to go, continue their excellent run.
On Friday two teams scored 39 points, with Malcolm Glass and Mike Jamieson the winners on countback from Rob Heard and Terry Jessup, who finished with a fine total of 217.
In third place on Friday were Tony Strong and Bob Flay with 38 points and a repeat score on the final round will wrest the trophy from the holders.
There were four 2s, from Rob Heard, Brian Wilkes, Chris Walker and Rob Grove.
