1st October 2010CREWKERNE: Rotary's taste of Italy
by Marion Draper
OVER 100 diners enjoyed a taste of Italy at a special themed evening held by the Rotary Club of Crewkerne at the Henhayes Centre.
The event was held to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The local trust representative gave a talk explaining how the organisation started 50 years ago by a couple who lost their own child and has gone from raising £3,500 to millions every year.
Food was supplied by Richard Hall, of Oscars Wine Bar, who donated some of his fee back to the charity.
The room was decorated with Italian posters and flags with piped Italian music while the guests ate. A musical interlude was also provided by female singers Sapphire who added a war time tribute appropriate to the Battle of Britain anniversary and did a superb version of the difficult number Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
The evening raised in excess of £ 1,000 with £600 alone made on the raffle thanks to the donations of prizes.
The Rotary Club would like to thank everyone for their support, particularly Mike Montegue for providing the flowers, Peter and Janet Hardwill for publicity and Ron Spencer who organised the evening and received a personal note of thanks from president Michael Dods.
