8th September 2010WEYMOUTH: Teams needed to step up for the barrel challenge
TEAMS from Weymouth and Portland have only a few days left to register for the Barrel Challenge.
Although not strictly a race, teams will have to work together to transfer an empty beer barrel from the Jail Ale Brewery at Princetown, Dartmoor, to the Kings Arms, Weymouth, by any legal means.
The event is a fun charity team challenge over two days to include an over night “under canvas” stop between midnight on Saturday September 11th and 5am on Sunday 12th.
Sponsorship money raised will be split equally between local charity MV Freedom (Weymouth’s boat for the disabled) and Help 4 Heroes.
Member of the organising committee, Tony Hawkins, said: “This is not a race, it’s all about teamwork. You will need to train and prepare as a team, and fundraise as a team and have fun!”
At the half way mark teams will stop off at Ashburton Country Park for a barbecue and country folk Celtic and Irish music in the evening, before continuing to Weymouth by 4pm.
Teams are encouraged to utilise the most novel or interesting mode of transport they can find to bring their barrels back.
The teams of four will be asked to collect as much money as possible on the way.
