WEYMOUTH: Revamped pharmacy urge patients to avoid 'silent killer'

By Paul Crompton

SOUTH Dorset’s MP felt the pressure in Weymouth last week when he helped a centenarian cut the ribbon to officially open a town centre pharmacy.

Richard Drax MP, and 103-year-old Nora Newbold were on hand to a mark the re-opening of Angel’s flagship Crescent Street pharmacy following a major refit and refurbishment project.
Alongside fellow customers Mr Drax also had his blood pressure measured  at the pharmacy’s blood pressure station to lend his support Blood Pressure Association’s Know Your Numbers Week (September 13th - 19th).
Known as the “silent killer”, one in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure and everyday 350 people have a preventable stroke or heart attack caused by the condition
Richard Drax MP, said: “I am delighted to have been asked to officially open the renovated pharmacy in the town. I understand I shall also have my blood pressure taken as part of a national campaign to highlight the importance of having this health check which can prevent a stroke or heart attack.
“In addition, the branch is one of four in the Weymouth area and employs a number of local people which is something to be promoted and celebrated.”
The new look pharmacy offers an increased modern and light space and has a double dispensing workstation to dispense prescriptions faster and minimise waiting times.
The enlarged space provides three private consultation rooms, giving patients space to talk with a pharmacist about their health and medicines whilst also providing a facility for health checks.
Additionally, there is a range of specialist services available, such as smoke stop clinics, weight management support clinics, blood pressure monitoring, diabetes awareness, cholesterol testing, a free home delivery service for housebound patients, and a wheelchair hire service.
