2nd September 2010WEYMOUTH: Sixty percent of months rain in one day
A RECENT storm which hit Weymouth dumped 60 per cent of the usual rainfall for the month on the town in a single day.
More than an inch and a quarter of rain (30.4mm) swamped the town.
Roads were flooded, homes suffered roof leaks and police said driving conditions were “poor” in many areas.
Weymouth weatherman Bob Poots said such downpours during August were not unknown but they were rare.
He added: “We had more than 30mm of rain in a single day and this represents at least 60 per cent of the rain we would expect to get in Weymouth for the entire month.
“It was very unusual to get such a high level of rainfall in August.”
