2nd September 2010DORCHESTER: Enjoying the great outdoors this bank holiday Monday
by Anita Harries
Summer returned with a vengeance as Maumbury Rings in Dorchester resounded with over eight hours of non stop music.
People flocked to this natural amphitheatre in their hundreds to enjoy some first class entertainment and some even brighter sunshine.
Families made the most of the weather to picnic, partake of a drink or two, try the odd burger and give in to the temptation of the world’s best ice cream.
Organised by Dorchester Town Council, with special thanks to Councillor Tony Lyall and Town Clerk Dennis Holmes, this was a musical extravaganza with something to suit every taste.
And to the strains of the Mayor of Dorchester, Councillor Leslie Phillips, shaking a tin for the Mayor’s charity, the event began with the energetic State of Undress.
This amazing venue filled with music as young children got up to dance, parents tapped their feet and an incredible atmosphere was created inside these ancient Rings.
Gorilla Salad took to the stage next with a superb rendition of Superstition, and the entertainment just got better and better.
As evening fell, more and more people gathered. Fingers and Fretz, Mumjums, the A-Listers and Ogri and the Café Racers were just some of the bands keeping the town rocking well into the night.
