Sherborne Town Reserves 1 Bridport Reserves 0
FORMER Bee Tony Cunningham scored the goal that separated two evenly matched sides and condemn Bridport to their third successive defeat.
Having opened this year’s campaign with two good wins, defeats against Weymouth Reserves and Portland United - two of the best sides in the league - Bridport were hoping to get back to winning ways against another of the stronger sides.
However Cunningham, who Bridport signed from Perry Street League side Merriott Rovers, killed their chances with a superb goal on the hour.
Receiving the ball on the halfway line, he beat four defenders in a mazy run before sidefooting the ball beyond keeper Lee Cleal.
Chances were few and far between, and although Tristan Gale did put the ball in the net, he used his hand when he could have headed it home, and the goal was disallowed.
Ashley Clarke also had a couple of headers that he might have done better with, but it was a tight game with few chances.
Assistant manager Mark Lock said: “We matched them all over the field except for ten seconds of madness when we let Tony Cunningham run free without closing him down.
“Once again the lads worked really hard and although they did hit the post in the first half, I think we deserved a point out of it. We are not getting that bit of luck at the moment that all teams need.”
