1st September 2010BRIDPORT: RNLI summer fun
by Tom Glover
A SEARCH and rescue display, duck race and cream teas helped the RNLI complete their summer events in style.
The West Bay fun day is the third of the big events from the RNLI each summer – following on from the success of the raft race and the Seatown BBQ.
The highlight of the day, as always, was the search and rescue display from the Weymouth all weather lifeboat and the Lyme Regis in-shore lifeboat. The coastguard helicopter was also due to attend but was called out on an emergency.
Supporting the main attraction, despite poor weather, were a host of stalls, cream teas in the Salt House, and a duck race on the River Brit won by Anne Oxenbury.
Organiser Ian Russell said: “We having finished counting the money yet but we are expecting to raise in the region of £4000. That total is a little down on last year but considering the weather we are quite pleased.
“We were extremely pleased with how it all went.”
