BRIDPORT: Singing for the terrified

A CUSHION could be the answer to a perfect singing voice as members of Bridport’s U3A group will find out this month.

Sound therapist Lucy Starchild will be running a “Singing for the Terrified” group and she has advised those taking part to wear loose, comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water – and a cushion.

The lessons for those who can’t, or won’t, sing have had a fantastic response since the Bridport & District U3A announced them.

More than 20 people have put their names down to join the group, which holds its first meeting on September 27th at the Dorset Pedlar in South Street, Bridport.

The new group will set out to give worried would-be singers confidence by helping them find their own voice.

Lucy Starchild said: “Expect to be both surprised and delighted. The ‘Freeing Your Inner Voice’ course will be an opportunity for people to rediscover their unique inner sound. Through the use of natural sounds, toning and simple movements and chants they will move with ease into an expression of their own authentic voices.”

Three other new interest groups being launched by U3A, which also covers Beaminster, Burton Bradstock and surrounding villages, are: Arts and Crafts (led by Roberta Bee, telephone 01308 861404); Cryptic Crosswords (leader John Burgass, 01308 455741); and Homeopathy and Nutrition for Optimum Health (leader Jenny Malyon-Roberts 07932 192908).
