1st September 2010LYME REGIS: Chelsea comes home for Artsfest exhibition
CHELSEA Davine, artist in residence at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis, is holding an open studio at the school on Monmouth Beach as part of Lyme Regis Artsfest.
Chelsea, who grew up in Lyme Regis where her family still live, is now based in Barcelona, but has been offered a solo exhibition at the Russell Gallery in London. Rather than ship the paintings over from Spain, Chelsea decided to look for a space to produce the paintings in Lyme. Preferring to be part of a working environment rather than in a studio she approached the Boat Building Academy, who were delighted to provide her with some wall space in among the trainee boat builders and woodworkers.
A graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design, Chelsea’s work is abstract, painted on materials ranging from canvas to steel and copper. Her inspiration for this series of paintings comes from wooden boats aging in the harbour; the oxidation and degradation of iron, the slow rusting and exposure of layers of paint beneath.
The Lyme Regis Artsfest runs from Saturday, September 25th to Sunday, October 3rd.
