1st September 2010DORCHESTER: Barn fire believed to be deliberate
A BARN fire which threatened to engulf a neighbouring property was started by arsonists, the fire service believe.
Dorset Fire Rescue Service was alerted to a barn fire between Longbredy and Littlebredy near Dorchester, which saw 30 tonnes of straw and hay go up in flames.
Two crews from Dorchester, a crew from Maiden Newton and a crew from Bridport attended the scene at approximately 10.40pm on August 30th
A fire spokesman said: “We believe the cause of this incident to be deliberate.
“Due to the presence of asbestos in the barn and contents being fully engulfed in fire, firefighters placed a cooling jet of water onto an adjoining premise to prevent fire spread. The barn was then allowed to burn in a controlled manner.”
Crews remained on the scene working to save the adjacent building the following day.
