4th August 2010BRIDPORT: County council staff are praised for retaining Investors in People reward
Hardworking staff have helped Dorset County Council successfully retain its prestigious Investors in People accreditation.
The authority was first awarded the recognised national standard for people management and its contribution to business achievement in 2000.
And now, following the latest successful assessment, tribute has been paid to the commitment and talent of staff at all levels.
Angus Campbell, county council leader, said: “This is a great result for Dorset. Excellent services can only be achieved by staff who are motivated, who have a real say in how we operate, who are properly trained and given opportunities for development.
“Despite the difficult financial climate we are in, this award demonstrates our commitment to all our staff and to improving services.
Investors in People measures organisations against a number of standards that aims to improve the performance of an organisation.
This year Dorset County Council has also achieved a Bronze Status by meeting additional standards – a further level of recognition. Organisations who achieve the Investors in People Bronze, Silver and Gold status currently represent the top three per cent of recognised Investors in People organisations so this is an exceptional achievement.
In this latest review the assessors reported that: “Involvement and consultation has increased at all levels. Staff feel valued, more empowered and trusted within their teams.”
Chief Executive David Jenkins said: “We are delighted with the assessor's appraisal of our council and we are particularly proud of their comments. This award recognises the excellent staff and managers we have at the council.
“Some 240 people from all levels across the council were interviewed and their contribution was very welcome. We know that they played a very important part in making this assessment successful.
“As well as commending us for what we do well, the assessors have given us their suggestions as to where we need to concentrate to do better. I particularly welcome this, as we are always keen to improve everything we do.”
