DORCHESTER: Firefighters tackle business park blaze

A MAJOR fire saw around 100 fire fighters scrambled to secure a Dorchester business park amid safety fears when a gas cylinder was discovered.

A 100-metre cordon was placed around Hybris Business Park, in Crossways after fire crews were pulled out of doing a survey of the building due to the presence of an acetylene cylinder.

Crews tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and were later forced to use main lines placed on their aerial ladder platforms as they continued to tackle the fire after the cordon.

Fire crews from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a property fire in a unit at approximately 2.10am July 24th.

Area Manager Keith Bacon, incident commander said: “Acetylene is extremely dangerous and for the safety of our staff we discontinued fire fighting from within the building.”

The business park remained an incident ground for the rest of Saturday and was made unavailable to the public.
