5th May 2010WEYMOUTH: Spuds are a hot potato on the street
LICENSING officers have granted permission for a new street trader to sell jacket potatoes in Weymouth.
The Fun Food Factory had wanted to set up operation in Bond Street but was opposed by Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
The town’s licensing manager Sue Moore explained that she had then mediated between the two, an agreement had been reached and the Factory had now been granted a one-year licence.
She added: “The Chamber was concerned that the Factory operation might hit the livelihood of some of its members.
“I was able to encourage the Chamber to look at each such trading case in its own right.
“They did this and it was agreed that the jacket potato operation would be unlikely to impact on Chamber members.
“The council is grateful to the Chamber for its flexibility, looking at each case on its merits rather than opposing all fresh traders.”
