5th May 2010BEAMINSTER: Exhibition celebrates Girlguiding
THE centenary anniversary of Girlguiding UK is being celebrated in Beaminster by members new and old.
Central to the celebrations is a museum exhibition, which was officially opened last month at a party of current Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section, Adult Leaders and Trefoil.
Newly enrolled Broadwindsor Brownie Georgia Hedditch, aged seven, did the honour of cutting the ribbon to open the exhibit.
The group then celebrated by singing songs around the museum’s specially created indoor campfire.
The opening was the first in a series of events for guides in the town. On Wednesday of last week Trefoil members from across Dorset descended upon Beaminster for a friendship afternoon.
Guest of honour on the day were County President Beryl Redwood and Beaminster’s first ever Queen’s Guide Elizabeth Cross who herself features in the museums exhibition.
Trefoil members from Beaminster, Bridport, Dorchester and Crewkerne all enjoyed a nostalgic trip through a hundred years of girlguiding.
The Girlguiding exhibit, created by the West Dorset 2010 centenary committee, is on show at Beaminster museum until Friday, May 14th.
