5th May 2010BEAMINSTER: Walk for Greek dog home
A LITTLE known dog shelter in Greece with no electricity is set to benefit from a Beaminster couple’s fundraising efforts.
Sue and David Wells will be raising funds for abandoned dogs and pups in Skiathos during a “leisurely” two-mile walk at the weekend.
The pair have so far raised around £16,000 for the shelter, which they visit each year.
Although the pair do not own dogs, accountant, David said: “Beaminster Football Club started a fund collection for the RSPCA, then when they backed out we carried on and because of the shelter over there we decided to do it for them.
“We haven’t got dogs but we both love them, we love all animals really. Normally the same people attend the walk each year but we get a few drop by the way-side and sometimes get new ones joining us.”
The charity, Skiathos Friends of Animals is run by Helen Bozas. She currently has around 100 dogs which she attempts to re-home throughout Europe.
Their care costs around £30,000 a year for dogs clippers, puppies collars, leads, flea and tick treatments and Dronthal wormer.
The leisurely stroll will start at 10am on Sunday, May 9th from Waytown. Sue and David can be contacted on 01308 863585.
