21st April 2010BRIDPORT: Jurassic find on Lyme beach
A MEMBER of Bridport’s U3A had a find of Jurassic proportions during a fossil hunt to Lyme Regis.
Christine Peat was out with the Bridport & District U3A fossil group when she found the fossil of a vertebra from a plesiosaur, an aquatic reptile from the Jurassic period.
“It was a wonderful find on what was only our second outing,” said the group leader Harry Britton.
The discovery was made at Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis where other fossil hunters also did well, finding belemnites, brachiopods and ammonites.
The group plans another trip to Black Venn and then there will be a session to identify, classify, clean and curate all the finds made so far.
