PORTLAND: New jobs and Portland hotel reopenedA HOST of new jobs are to be created after a company confirmed they will be moving into the former Portland Spa Hotel and Conference Centre. The Portland (Weymouth) Ltd will take control of the complex following Compass Point Estates successful purchase of Southwell Business Park last month from administrators KPMG. Directors Darren Gadd and Merv Turner are hoping to reopen the hotel on April 26th and are already in the process of organising music events and regular themed nights to entertain islanders.But first they are looking to hire staff in a variety of positions including, chefs, waiters, housekeeping staff and porters at a recruitment day on April 11th at the hotel between 10am to 4pm. Mr Gadd said: “We will be offering a facility for visitors and locals alike, including a new family restaurant called The Quarry. “There will be regular themed evenings to bring the premises to life and we have a variety of events planned. Merv has experience in the events business and is already planning music events and talking to promoters and event organisers.” The Portland Hotel is a world class four star hotel located at the heart of the UK’s Jurassic Coast which offers affordable luxury accommodation and conferencing facilities. The hotel, which overlooks Portland Bill, will also take advantage of Mr Gadd’s experience in catering and organising weddings as the premises will have a civil ceremony licence.
