6th April 2010WEYMOUTH: Showing off the best of Dorset
By Harry Walton
HUNDREDS of visitors poured in to Weymouth Pavilion Ocean Room and Theatre to enjoy the 2010 Best of Dorset Show.
The event was opened by GB shotgun champion Peter Wilson who was staggered by how busy the show was.
He said: “I can’t believe there are so many people here. It has been a really interesting day.”
He had toured nearly 40 stands and entertainers showing the area’s depth in attractions and entertainment one of which, the TS Pelican, dominated the skyline outside.
Crew member Ken Warren, 77, took visitors round the ship and said: “We are delighted to be part of the show. Pelican is Weymouth’s own tall ship and there has been a lot of interest in her today.”
Inside the event visitors could learn about a host of attractions and sample everything from ice-cream and chocolate to tea, bread, cheese and even clothing and towels made out of bamboo.
Theatre entertainment ranged from Weymouth Operatic Workshop – who were watched by more than 250 people – to Punch and Judy, singers and dancers.
Weymouth and Portland promotions officer Steve Davies said: “It has been a tremendous success, our most popular show ever with phenomenally high visitor numbers. Now we must try and build on that for 2011.”
