BEAMINSTER School has been recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) for its exceptional 2009 GCSE results.
The school met all the criteria outlined by the SSAT and particularly excelled in science and modern foreign languages (MFL).
Students performed well above the national average in both areas with 69 per cent achieving two or more A* to C results in science, beating the national average of 53.7 per cent and an impressive 83 per cent recording at least one A* to C grade in MFL, well above the national average of 31.6 per cent.
The school also met criteria outlined for general GCSE achievement.
An awards ceremony was held by the SSAT in London last week and the school was invited to attend in recognition of its high attainment.
Headteacher Mike Best said: “These are demanding criteria are we are delighted that our hard work has been recognised. It is the breadth of achievement that is particularly pleasing."
Elizabeth Reid, Chief Executive of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, said:
“Congratulations to all the specialist schools and academies that have met the criteria for our high attaining awards.
“These schools are enabling more young people to reach their full potential and succeed in the 21st century.
"It is important we celebrate these achievements, as they are the product of hard work and dedication by school leaders, teachers and students. By sharing best practice and partnering with other schools through the SSAT’s networks, they are also helping to deliver improvements across the whole school system.”
