11th March 2010DONYATT: On time and on budget
VILLAGERS of Donyatt were delighted when their village hall was given back to them, redesigned, rejuvenated, on time, and within budget thanks to good team work.
The imaginative £150,000 extension designed by local architect John Anderson was completed just before Christmas. A spokesperson for the hall committee said: “The builders, Woodlands, have excelled themselves. In spite of difficult weather in the summer they completed the job bang on schedule and under budget.
“The plan originally involved volunteer decoration after Woodlands had finished, but in order to get the hall ready in time for Christmas festivities they agreed to arrange things so the volunteer painters could come in as soon as each part was ready for its first coat of paint.
Professionals and amateurs worked happily around each other and through weekends and behold, on handover day the decoration was virtually complete as well.
“The whole project was an exercise in harmonious management and Woodlands are to be congratulated. Not only was the work completed without a hitch but ingenious organisation enabled the main hall to stay in continuous use throughout the six month programme, although some users were a little confused to find the front door in a different place each time they came.
“When the weather improves there is some landscaping and planting to be completed but the new solar photo voltaic panels are already busy generating the hall’s electricity and the refurbished hall and extension with its big car park are open for business.”
